Sylvester & Emma

Saturday was the perfect lazy day. I got home really late Friday night after seeing The Lumineers in St. Louis with my sister (it was awesome!) and wanted to just relax on Saturday. The chilly, dark, rainy weather was conducive to lounging, so David and I enjoyed couch time under a pile of blankets.

Mid-afternoon, I peeked out the kitchen door to see how all the animals were doing, and noticed Sylvester making himself cozy on the back porch while hiding from the rain.

I gave him a little pet and went back inside for some more couch time. A bit later, I peered back out the door again and this time saw Sylvester had a cuddle buddy.

No matter your species, rainy weekend days truly are best spent cuddling with those you love. Just when I thought they couldn't get any cuter, this happened.

It has been so heartwarming to see how Sylvester has taken Emma under his wing (er, paw?) and welcomed her to our homestead. I didn't expect anything less of him, because he has shown us in the past that he is a lover, not a fighter. Seeing these two together always makes me smile and makes my day that much brighter.

Do any of your animals have special bonds?

  3. The more you watch animals - any animal - the more human they seem to be. All mother mammals and birds seem to love and nurture their young. They also have varing personalities - shy, loving, mean and loving creatures. And as it is for humans - so it is for animals. SO - eat your fruits and vegetables :-}}

  16. Our horse and our billy goat are close friends. The goat likes to stay in the stall with the horse and the horse became very upset the last time we moved the goat to a different pasture. An unusual relationship, but I think it qualifies as a special bond. :)

  17. This is just darling Tammy. I believe animals are much smarter than most people think. They can feel when someone isn't well or is hurt and they can certainly help each other out as well. Layla and Ginger swoon and groom daily:)

  22. I love it! The girls are litter mates and while they chase each other and Winston can be a bully, they sleep with each other and sleep circular and groom each other.

  23. The Lumineers!! - Lucky!!
    Do you guys listen to the Avett Brothers? They've been at the top of my favorite musicians for several years, and are finally achieving great recognition & popularity.
    I adore these rainy day photos - especially the movement of the rain falling from the roof behind Sylvester. We had a rainy, quiet, stay-inside-and-make-a-warm-fire kind of weekend, too. I think the rest was needed for us all!

  24. So sweet! We have a large isa brown chook and a bantam chook that like to share a dirt hole together on a warm spring day! Although it might just be a case of the isa brown sitting on the bantam.

  26. Hiro is definitely our daddy cat. He bathes the other two cats and even acts as a therapist to us humans. If Silas is throwing a fit or Wade or I are having a bad day, he is right there next to us purring and calming us down.

  27. Awww that's so sweet of Sylvester. I do have have 3 pets, 2 dogs and a cat. Kitty our cat is so attached to Gizmo (our Shih-Tzu) while Gizmo and Dolce (our Maltese) fights all the time. It's so funny because Gizmo doesn't like Dolce getting close to Kitty. He wants her all to himself. :)

  29. So sweet! My dog and cat used to have that kind of bond. Kitty went through a little depression after the dog died and has come out of it just fine now. I was so sad not only for losing our dog, but that the kitty was sad too!

    Sylvester seems to be such a sweet cat. You are lucky to have him in your family.
