Clearing the Camera

I haven't done one of these posts in a couple months (go here, here, or here for a trip down memory lane) and had some photos stored in my camera that I wanted to share.

Broody guinea hen warning me that I'm getting too close to her babies!

Hope you enjoyed a slice of our homestead!

  1. Those are lovely photos. Believe me, I'd much rather live where you are ... but here I am, 18 years later. Thank goodness for travel and the chance to get away. :) Best wishes, Tammy

    1. Thank you so much! It is just about impossible to travel in our situation; it takes a lot of planning!

  2. Hi Tammy, WOW to your photo's! I would love to get a cat shot like either of yours that I'm totally happy with, but Sassycat would rather cuddle than pose!
    Beautiful shots x

    1. Aww, thanks Janie! I really appreciate the comment :) It takes me forever to get good shots of the cats. When I bend down to take a photo they move and come over to rub up against me!

  3. Tammy, I love these photos, and I love this little slice of your homestead life! It looks just about perfect!

My husband had to go to New York City on business last week, and while he enjoyed the trip, he was eager to come back to our small town. We also are former big city dwellers, but have found the peace and quiet of small town life to be much more to our liking. Last Friday, we visited the corn maze (I survived!) and we picked out our pumpkins. After that we headed to the lake to let Kona swim while we enjoyed the fall colors of the trees in the nearby woods. We had so much fun:)

Now, if I could just talk my hubby into having some chickens...

    1. Sounds like a fun day last Friday! Something I'd enjoy for sure. We lived in St. Louis for a while but now we are definitely country folk :)

You should get chickens! I bet your husband would come to love them. And if not, he'd love the fresh eggs for sure!

  5. These are beautiful photos. I'm blown away by the barred rock chicken photo. How did you get her to stand still? I've tried in vain to take poultry pictures. They are ALWAYS on the move.

    1. The barred rock is our rooster, Cam. He is the ONLY one of the chickens who stands still! He actually poses really well for the camera. When I get it out and point at him, he just stands still and lets me shoot away :) I love it!

PS - If you have a camera that lets you change the shutter speed, you could try speeding it up and see if you can freeze some motion.

    2. HIM, I mean. Ooops! Oh, my! A 'voguing' rooster. That's too cute :-)

Thank you for the camera tip. There is a shutter speed, I'm just not sure how to use it but I will play with it and figure it out. Thanks!

  10. Fantastic photos Tammy, hard to pick a fav! Like the flipside of mine, with it being spring where I am. At my first glance of the one of your black cat I thought he was a bear in the woods!! Don't know whether you actually have bears in your neck of the woods!! S:)
