Feathered Friend Friday

Welcome to our series "Feathered Friend Friday." Every Friday I write a post with interesting facts, photos, or funny stories about our chickens and guineas. If you need to catch up, you'll find all the Feathered Friend Friday posts here.

One of my favorite ways to unwind is to sit outside with the chickens. It's fun to watch them go about their business and always interesting to see how they interact. When I sit down, they mosey on over to say hello.

The usually end up on my lap. For some reason they love perching on my boots!

Always curious, they like to peck at my boots and pants to see if they can find any hidden goodies.

Sometimes they fight for spots on my legs. I've had chickens on my legs, boots, and shoulder all at the same time. Needless to say, in that situation I couldn't move if I wanted to! But usually they take their turns and it's just a couple at a time.

The new pullets are pretty energetic and rarely sit down, but the older girls will chill out and sit on my legs or lay in my lap. There's something so peaceful about petting them while they get more and more relaxed. If I stop, they will usually give me the stink eye until I start petting again. Sometimes they even fall asleep!

It's amazing how much joy they have brought to my life. I can't even imagine a life without chickens!

  1. Unless you have been bitten by the chicken love bug, it is hard to explain it to other people. I am thankful that I understand just what you mean, Tammy. You can tell how well your girls are treated by how much trust they show you.

    1. Yes, exactly! It's hard to explain to people who don't understand. I'm happy I do :)

    1. I think so, too! Even Cam (one of the roosters) will hop up on my boots from time to time and he is NOT a cuddler!
